Gregory Jacobs

Art is a way of life, an action that is necessary in my daily existence. Inspirations for my art comes from the natural environment that are teeming with energy and interactions we are unaware of. Art can capture these moments in time. The expression of these actions and the continuous chain of reactions are endless. I try to express these ideas in my glass.

My glass work is pieces derived from natural forms. Objects and odd creatures, animals, plants and landscapes are subjects that provide inspiration for my work. My work is a study of techniques combined with an organic shape. I like to have a sense of the process of nature in my glass. For instance the awkward movement of turtles, the flowing of sea anemones underwater, the tangle of negative space in a branch, the bud of new growth and coercive look of age and many more.

To me glass blowing isn't only about the finished glass piece, but it is about the physical process that gets you there. Each piece is built off the knowledge of the last finished piece. No two can look the same. I make a sketch and a plan before I start to blow glass. Sweating, burning, and moving glass in and out of a molten state connects the work to my deeper self. I have a determination to create art and to express what is in my mind. These inspirations and utter enjoyment fuels me creativity to create art. Some of Gregs Artwork Below is pictured below.
